Basic Colours

Max is 19 months old at the moment. At this age he's like a giant sponge. Every single day he picks up something new, sometimes it's a new word (or five), or a new concept or a new skill. It's such a great age.

Even though he is learning so quickly at the moment, I was prepared for him to take a while to get the hang of colour sorting. I tried it with him a couple of months ago, but stopped because he just wanted to throw the blocks and tear up the cards.

Today when we sat down with our colour cards and blocks he picked it up within minutes. It's amazing what a difference a few short months make!

All I did was lay four coloured cards down on the carpet (red, blue, yellow and green) and hand him different colour blocks one by one. As I handed him each block I would say the colour of it.

If he put the block on the wrong colour card, I would pick it up, say 'whoops' and hand the block back to him. Then I would say the colour again and tap the right card. Each time he got it right I would clap and cheer (cue huge smiles from Max).

After a couple of run throughs he was getting it right almost every time!

Later in the day we revisited the game and this time I let him have all of the blocks and one by one he placed them on the cards. Adorable!

About Us

Hi and welcome to 'Play with Max and Me'.

This is the place where I write about how Max and I learn through play.

My main blog is about life, and building and decorating a home, so I didn't want to fill it up with posts about counting to ten, learning colours, transfer activities etc.

I do strongly believe in the benefits of learning through play though... so I stated this blog to share my ideas and (hopefully) connect with other Mums. It's where I keep track of all the fun things Max and I do in the name of learning through play.

This link here takes you to my main blog's about us page. All the details are the same :)

Enjoy and please feel free to share links to your own blogs - I love hearing about new ways to keep the monster entertained!!
